Houston Independent Media Center Mission Statement : The Houston Independent Media Center is a community based organization committed to using media production and distribution as a tool for promoting social and economic justice. It is our goal to give voice to those people under-represented in the mainstream media. With an emphasis on local issues, we will seek connections to global systems. We intend to illuminate and analyze issues that are affected by the increasing corporate domination of society and the subsequent erosion of democracy and equal protection under the law. We will strive to develop the arts, culture, entertainment, education, forums and conferences. We seek to generate alternatives to the current biases inherent in profit-based and corporate media and to contribute to the development of an equitable and sustainable society. Action Guidelines: We, participants in the Houston Independent Media Center, agree 1) to use indymedia to report the truth and to provide background, references and sources whenever possible 2) to respect the viewpoints and privacy of other members of the group, to contribute constructively to the group and to use consensus to reach decisions 3) not to use or tolerate harassment or violence or threat thereof in conjunction with our media work 4) not to represent our personal viewpoints as viewpoints of the IMC 5) not to accept money or any form of influence or coercion from groups or individuals over our participation in the Houston IMC 6) to only allow individuals who will agree to our Mission, Guidelines and Protocols to join any of our decision making teams To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the Imc-houston-process Archives. Subscribing to Imc-houston-process
Subscribe to Imc-houston-process by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email. This is also a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator. Your email address:   Your name (optional):   You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your password when you edit your personal options. Once a month, your password will be emailed to you as a reminder.
