This is a global discussion list on IT security theory and practice (software and hardware) as related to Indymedia.
If you are interested in joining this list, please read on:
The imc-security listserv includes discussion of sensitive information, thus we have a tight list subscription policy. While this will unluckily make it more difficult to join for people who are less networked within Indymedia, it is the only safe way to build a mailing list where every subscriber can be considered trustable.
Two ways to join
There are two ways to join the working group: The common way is to pass the vouching system as described below. However, if you are an Indymedia sysadmin - as defined in the IMC Security subscription policy- you may bypass the vouching system.
Joining through vouching system
To be subscribed to imc-security using the vouching system, you as a new subscriber must walk through all of these steps in the given order:
- Send a brief introduction about who you are, where you are (just the area, no detail), what you do and why you want to join to the list posting address imc-security@lists.indymedia.org.
- Request subscription on this page (scroll down), do this right after submitting your roll call.
- The list admins will forward your roll call to the mailing list and ask all current subscribers to make a statement on their trust or distrust in you. Within a week after sending the subscription request, you need to receive two vouches and no more than one distrust statement by people who are already subscribed to the list
Joining as sysadmin
To be subscribed to imc-security as an Indymedia sysadmin, i.e. bypassing the vouching system, you as a new subscriber must walk through all of these steps in the given order:
- Send a brief introduction about who you are, where you are (just the area, no detail), what you do and why you want to join to the list posting address imc-security@lists.indymedia.org. State that you wish to bypass the vouching system as you meet the definition of an Indymedia sysadmin given on the IMC Security wiki. Add the host name of the server you are root of which an approved IMC is hosted on. Also give the URL of this IMC.
- Request subscription on this page (scroll down), do this right after submitting your roll call.
- If you have provided all neccessary information, we will send further instructions to user root on the hostname of the given server. You need to reply to this email within a week after receiving it (or your subscription request will be dropped).
