The IMC-UK changeover to Mir is proceeding on schedule, it looks like!
While I have some qualms about Mir, it's certainly an improvement over
Active, and the site should work much better after the changeover!

hi all,

after having been distracted by a £$*& bloody war I can at last announce
that the regional pages for UK-MIR are there - check them at
http://uktest.indymedia.de/ . When test publishing you will see that the
regional selection is there already even tho the upload stops after the
commit screen. Zapata the mir-guru is at the moment working on a new
version for uploading, and on the option to automatically have the
regional newswire selected from which the publish button was selected.
He promised to sort it within a week - on past track record I think he
can be trusted with this promise :)

Me (being a half-dilettante with all that java) am busy trying to
understand how to get the static pages working, how to set the number of
items displayed on a middle column and such stuff... As by-product of my
learning process I have created a few more twiki pages trying to explain
things:
- details on what files to change for regional pages
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkMirRegionalPagesSetupHOWTO
- setup details of the uktest site and how to use CVS, see
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkMirCvsWorkflowHOWTO
- detailed documentation of changes I made, mainly to keep track of my
own chaos
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkMirLearningCurve

So anyone, designers or not, please come up with ideas how you want your
regional page or the UK page to look! I will mail the individual
regional lists with the details, asking to start designing their
layouts.

Furthermore please all feel free to nose around in the admin pages at
https://uktest.indymedia.de/uktest/servlet/Mir - login is uk and the
password is the same as for the stallman admin pages (but you need to
substitute that vocal with a number ;) You could start classifying
all the stories you want to have in your regional Newswire, or in your
regional middle column... Start by clicking on "View all Newswire
Articles" and classify them with your regional IMC, using either the
"newswire" popup to have it in your regional wire, or using the
"Regional Feature" to have it in your middle column. We'll have soon a
new database dump to get all the Anti-war stories in and there was so
much stuff reported all over the UK that we probably need to create a
few more regions anyway...

I think we're still on track to make the 1st of May changeover with a
functional and great site. And as this is a collaborative effort I guess
it will be the case anyway that we'll develop things further when we're
live already. Please feed back any thoughts how things could or should
be! I suggest we have a wish-list debate on uk-process.

cheers, andi
