My thoughts:
Aliases for local collectives -- a very good idea (things like
imc-cambridge-contact at lists.indymedia.org aren't very snappy)
Shared IMAP/POP/web mail accounts for collectives -- not so sure; likely
to lead to confusion with multiple people using them, plus mail sent
from them will appear to be sent from "the collective" rather than an
individual within it. (I think it's better to speak as a liaison rather
than actually in the collective name.)
Personal aliases -- I agree that these give us a sense of collective
identity. I think as long we're happy to give them to all who are
genuinely involved with IMC-UK (rather than just a select few) there
shouldn't be too much of a problem with a "two-tier" class system.
Actual email accounts for people -- as for personal aliases, plus I
think anything that avoids our reliance on corporate webmail services
and ISPs, or takes some of the load off of good (but overloaded) people
like riseup.net is a good idea.
As to the uk.indymedia.org / indymedia.org.uk discussion, I don't really
have strong feelings. Although if both can accept mail, it would be nice
(in order to avoid confusion) if they pointed to the same mail service.
Zak,
IMC Cambridge (but speaking for myself, not for the collective).
