[Imc-uk-process] .indymedia.org.uk emails

Hi everybody,
Just a quick note to say I'm not really in favour of personal
.indymedia.org.uk emails. I am quite torn about this because I think I
would be very proud to have such an email, but I worry that it would be
off-putting to new, less experienced, or less technical people if there
was a group of us who had .indymedia.org.uk addresses, and a (probably
much larger) group who didn't know that they could have one, how to get
one, etc.
It's tempting. Ideally, I'd very much like to have an IMAP account with
a UK indy suffix, but this is in many ways an even worse thing as the
potential for abusive, insensitive, just plain stupid stuff happening
becomes much stronger: the Tony G controversy that has been playing out
could have been / could be much worse if control of an email address
was/were involved in it.
However, I also see many benefits coming from having an address like
this: better security, cooler domain names, group spirit, etc.
Has anybody thought about emulating the Italians and setting up a sort of
http://britistici.org a la http://autistici.org ? It seems to me like
that would have a lot of the benefits and not too many of the
disadvantages, and could allow more flexibility in terms of how things
get done.
Sorry I haven't chimed in sooner with concerns, things have been really
hectic here and I've not had much time to follow the development of this
one,
Y
ps I think that having emails for collectives is great as long as nobody
can send from them.
pps this is all just a very rushed opinion on something that may already
be decided, I dunno.

acknowledging similarities, will strive to find itself in other
resistances around the world. This intercontinental network of resistance
will be the medium in which distinct resistances may support one another.
This intercontinental network of resistance is not an organizing
structure; it has no central head or decision maker; it has no central
command or hierarchies. We are the network, all of us who resist."
