Hi Brett and all,

just to say - for me it's cool if the esf_media group has an irc meeting on
irc.indy. For those who haven't heard of this group before: they have an
email list on esf_media at lists.riseup.net, see
http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/esf_media. Has 33 subscribers so far, discusses all sorts of media related
things, including the idea to set up a media center.

Although lots of things about the esf are still up in the air, I get the
feeling that there are quite a few people inside and outside the indymedia
network who are interested in making a media center happen.
People have different ideas how to organise this, and how closely it should
be connected to the "official" esf process - but what seems clear is that
there will be at least one media center, maybe even more than one.

At the ESF in Florence 2 years ago, I think there was an official media
center, and people were paid to set it up and run it smoothly as a service for
mainstream journalists - and also a "hub", which I understand was something
between an independent media center and an activist conference/gathering,
organised in the diy - horizontal - nonhierarchical way.

My personal vision for esf2004 would be to kind of re-vive the spirit of the
first imc in seattle, when indymedia wasn't an existing network, but more an
umbrella for tons of existing alternative media makers. An ESF is different
from a big protest for sure, but I like the idea of synergy. Maybe it's time
to gather those who want to spend some time organising an independent media
center, and check out the common grounds?

just asking...
