Dear mathias,
The principles of Indymedia include solving
conflicts by openness, consensus etc. If you look at
the archives of imc-france:

http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-france/2002-May/thread.html

you will see that there seems to be some sort of
consensus emerging to suspend the closure request
and to debate the question of temporary closure -
and more fundamental organising issues - at a
face-to-face meeting, maybe in Paris on 16 May, or
maybe a bit later.

My understanding is that there have been some
problems regarding openness, consensus,
non-hierarchy, etc., nobody seems to deny this.

But wilfrid *has* put an announcement for an open
meeting in the central column of
france.indymedia.org, which is clearly a step
forward. He and you and massalia and gautier and jb
will be able to *all* demonstrate your commitment to
indymedia style organising (consensus, openness) by
together using the imc-france mailing list to come
to an agreement on a date/time/place for the first
meeting, and on a draft agenda.

Wilfrid can demonstrate his commitment by putting
a complete announcement in the central column
which *empowers* all readers, i.e. points
(i), (ii), (iii), (iv) in:

Well, mathias, there is now some discussion on
imc-france - up to you to choose to take part
constructively.

This is a question of editorial policy. If you wish
this to be on the agenda of the next meeting, you
should discuss it with the other locals on
imc-france. However, it might be more useful to
consider a practical exercise in consensus
decision-making as the first item in the agenda for
the meeting:

and experiment with this technique, before trying to
make wither short term decisions (temporary closure)
or long term decisions (like editorial policy).

Wilfrid has taken at least two steps in the new-imc
process,
 - he has started discussing on imc-france (the
obvious place for IMC France discussions), and
 - he has made an announcement for a meeting in the
central column.

It is true that the meeting time/date/place were
decided secretly and non-consensually (to the best
of my knowledge so far), so he still has some learning
to do. But who doesn't still have things to learn?

And if i understand massalia correctly, she is
happy to delay the question of closure to be
debated at a face-to-face meeting:

http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-france/2002-May/003048.html

BTW, there are at least three people on new-imc
who read French and can "keep an eye" on what's
happening at imc-france (bart, geoffrey, me),
and i'm sure many more, and there's red kitten
from imc belgium who's subscribed to the list,
so it's probably enough to discuss things there
in French.

i suggest you invest your energy on the imc-france
mailing list in helping local people in France
(including yourself) reach a consensus on
time/date/place + agenda for a face-to-face meeting,
and in encouraging wilfrid to do something like
points (i), (ii), (iii), (iv) of:

http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-france/2002-May/003057.html

Or maybe you could translate some of the consensus
technique documents above?
