[New-imc] Agua / thematic IMCs

I think thematic website like AquaIMC isn't such a good idea:
one of the main goal of indymedia is to empower common people so they can
produce their own news. Therefore, there's a need of collectives to
promote, explain, organize trainning and provide facilities. That's why
(according to me) we need local collectives, organized around local website.
The problem with 'themas' websites is that they may become quite "internet
website" for "internet ppl." It makes it difficult to organize common ppl.,
but internet activists or collectives which are acting around that thema.
I'm affraid thema's website would be difficult to run, but i guess we
should hear from 'Climate' on this issue. At the moment, this site looks
really quite (see bellow)
Did those proposing Aqua IMC got in touch with the Climate IMC ?
I don't think we should exclude the idea of building such IMCs, but that it
doesn't seem to me that it is what we need right now...

Hello all
I didn't send a mail about this before as i saw others saying the same
thing but as it has moved on to a new level i will add a few words...
I am against the idea of single issue imc's as i think they are much better
served as a separate site - i feel what would be useful to single issues is
the active software or other simular ones - where people can comment and
add their stories on issues...
Although i like the idea of having an Aqua site that links all the global
water issues - other more specific single issues may cause us (as
'indymedia) problems later on - do we than move into political themes (imc
anarchy) etc. I prefer that we have local situated sites that report on all
issues that their area feels is important - if imc france decides water is
really important than there is no reason why they do not concentrate on
that issue more than others - that would be their choice - like others pick
up gentrification or war.
I think the idea of feature syndication is great - and sections like on the
German site are also handy (although i think that is only available with
their software at the moment) work well - but need maintaining!
I don't want to put a downer on the enthusiasm of the people proposing this
Aqua site but feel it may be better that imc helps them set up as a
separate project.

Hey Everyone,
*** summary ***
We should have a discussion on issue/topic based imc's first.
*** mail ****
I personally think we should have a discussion about whether we want
issue/topic based imc's or not.
Around the climate imc there were a lot of debates and they mostly only got
approved because they were active before new-imc started.
Personally I like our model of local groups working around an imc in their
city/region/... I think having issue based imc's will take away focus on
those local imc's. Instead of having issue based imc's we could better work
out a topical syndication like we now do a feature-syndication on the global
newswire.
So I propose we activally discuss issue/topic based imc's on imc-process or
new-imc first before we move on with the aqua project.

great!
I'm taking some time off for two weeks. So either Oli or JB will write
this letter and send it out on the network or we'll collectively write it at
the end of the month.
