My name is Kevyn, and I an an activist who is traveling North america over the next few years, in a Grease powered bus, and since I am not located in one city, but wished to set up an IMC, i thought I would contact you, and see what your thoughts were.
My thoughts, were either to tie into other IMC in the cities as I travel through them, or take the next step and maybe become a roving IMC?
I also wanted to put a proposal out, for direct action events, for some interlinked participation with Indy Media. I am hooking up a micro-powered FM broadcaster on the bus, so when we are, for example, in Calgary for the G-8, or Washington for the IMF meetings, we could broadcast a low powered FM signal in the evenings for a few hours.
This is to address the issues which have been raised at recent actions, that without direct internet hookup, it is hard for activists, and journalists to keep up with what is happening at the moment.
We hoped that there could be an IndyMedia rep in each area, who would be willing to broadcast a "news" update say for one hour or half hour in the evenings. Then we could easily get people to tune in at a certain time to hear updates if they wished.
As well, it would allow those participating in an action to tune in on portable radios, which could be a big boost to moral.
Recent example in Washington, this would have been an extremely useful tool, to help add support to those arrested and sitting on the buses.
