Hi, I'm suzy, I'm interested in languages and
translation, although I
don't speak hebrew or arabic, yet. I read Palestine
IMC and Israel IMC
regularly and have sevral friends who work with
Palestine IMC. I'm
interested in the idea of a special Indymedia
delegation in Iraq or Jordan
to do war reporting... I had heard that the project was
underway, and
wondered how I could get involved.
Take care.

Hi SuZQ,
Thanks for joining the Eastern Mediterranean IMC
grouping.
Im sending a copy of your letter to the new-imc
working group (one of the volunteer work groups of the
imc network), because as the horizon fills with the
possibility of renewed war and slaughter against Iraq,
your proposal or interest in reporting from Iraq or
Jordan may become connected to forming a new imc group
in that region.
Several months ago, there was some indirect contact
with some people from Iraq indicating an interest in
forming a local imc, but our contact did not last long
enough for us to be able to even determine if those
people were on the side of the liberation movement or
if they were expressing some local imperailist pawn.
Anwyway, as we expand our network and as the hellacious
conflicts expand, the unfolding events will highlight
better for us what needs to be done.
There might be others in the new-imc working group, who
know more about the special Indymedia delegation in
Iraq or Jordan which you speak of.
About the Eastern Mediterranean IMC and ways to help:
We are going through a process of untangling our
personal and group memberships: the imc- cyprus and
imc- istanbul are members of this formation, but also
independent entities separate from it. It just happened
that all of our groups started to form around the same
time, and our memberships are quite overlapping. As we
have been all progressing with our local work, were
now in a better position to refresh the Mediterranean
(regional) level of our work.
The part where we lack the most, where we are the
weakest, the area where our efforts need to be
directed, is to cultivate better contact with imc-
palestine and imc- israel. And with other arabic-
speaking people and groups who are in the region who
have an orientation or affiliation with the politics
and mission of Indymedia. At the beginnings of this
regional effort, there were more volunteers to shoulder
the work, but we got bogged down with political and
personal conflicts in our local work, which strangled
our networking- outreach efforts almost from the
beginning. But we all have a genuine desire to expland
this regional group to embrace all of our Eastern
Mediterranean political, social, cultural realities.
There were also some contacts in the past with people
from Beirut, and Egypt, and others, which need to be
better solidified, or re-explored.
But the most important poles with whom we need to
cultivate better relations are imc- palestine and imc-
israel. Do you have any suggestions on how we can
proceed with that toward creating a more regional,
Eastern Mediterranean IMC sense of collectivity among
all of us?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Petros
