So far people have been spreading the word individually among various
networks of activists. We agree that we should develop some projects
of outreach to people who live in villages, who are the people who
are suffering the most from the corporate attacks on social and
economic human rights.

W zmieniaj±cym siê ¶wiecie decyduj±c± rolê bêdzie odgrywaæ rzetelna
i niezale¿na informacja. Nowe techniki medialne otwieraj± mo¿liwo¶ci,
z których korzystaj± Indymedia. Szczycimy siê swoj± niezale¿no¶ci±
wspieran± przez metodê \"open publishing\". Polskie Indymedia s±
zobowi±zane:
1. faktom, prawdzie, rzetelnej informacji i dobrej komunikacji miêdzy
naszymi uczestnikami,
2. wolno¶ci i innym prawom cz³owieka,
3. sprawiedliwo¶ci spo³ecznej, szczególnie gospodarczej, oraz
4. sprawiedliwemu, solidarnemu i zrównowa¿onemu gospodarowaniu
ekosfer±.

Otwieraj±c dla ka¿dego uczestnika Internetu mo¿liwo¶æ publikowania
na naszych stronach popieramy zwiêkszon± odpowiedzialno¶æ i wiêkszy
wp³yw na swoje otoczenie ni¿ daje to rytua³ wyboru jednej twarzy z
plakatu spo¶ród innych raz na cztery lata.

Zmiany ustrojowe w Polsce otworzy³y nowe mo¿liwo¶ci, niestety
dotychczasowe media nie potrafi³y odpowiedzieæ w pe³ni na wyzwania,
jakie stawia wolno¶æ gospodarcza sprawiedliwo¶ci materialnej.
Poprzez swoje reportarze Indymedia promuj± dyskusjê o sprawiedliwo¶ci
i rzeczywistych wyzwaniach spo³ecznych w przeciwieñstwie do jak¿e
czêsto iluzorycznego ¶wiata korporacji oddanych wielkiemu kapita³owi.

In a rapidely changing world the reliable and independant information
will play a crucial role. New media techniques open new possibilities,
from which Indymedia arises. We are proud of our independance and of
method of \"open publishing\", which will promote independance in the
future. The work of Polish Indymedia is especially committed to:
1. facts, the truth, reliable information and good communication
among our participants
2. freedom and other human rights
3. social justice, especially economical justice and
4. just, solidary and sustainable management of the ecosphere

Opening up publishing possiblities for each Internet participant on
our pages we also support more responsibility and more more influence
on one\'s surrounding then the ritual of choosing a face from election
poster once in four years offers.

System changes in Poland opened new possibilities. Unfortunately
hitherto mass media failed to adequately respond to the challenges
that economical freedom has posed to economical justice. Through it\'s
reports Indymedia encourages discussion about justice and true social
challenges as opposed to the illusionary world vision promoted by
corporations devoted to big capital only.

Upadek komunizmu w Polsce postawi³ pytanie, czy ekonomiczne i
spo³eczne prawa cz³owieka (do \"pracy i chleba\") mog± byæ po¶wiêcone na
rzecz praw politycznych - formalnej demokracji? Czy prawa polityczne,
z kolei, mog± byæ po¶wiêcone na rzecz prywatnych imperiów finansowych
i miêdzynarodowego rynku, które s± ¶lepe na ludzkie warto¶ci? Zwykli
ludzie wydaj± siê wierzyæ, ¿e wiêkszo¶æ z tych praw jest potrzebna,
podobnie jak ochrona ¶rodowiska naturalnego i zdecydowali siê
kontynuowaæ d³ug± polsk± tradycjê oddolnych protestów.

Korporacyjne media przekazuj± *jakie¶* sprawozdania z *niektórych*
protestów - pielêgniarek, górników, stoczniowców (co¶ wam to
przypomina?), nauczycieli, jednak nie podejmuje tematu ekonomicznych,
politycznych lub spo³ecznych metod wzmacniania praw cz³owieka. Wrêcz
przeciwnie, w najwiêkszych mediach dominuje neoliberalna doktryna
ekonomiczna, g³osz±ca zbawienne skutki bogacenia siê bogatych i
niszczenia solidarno¶ci w imiê wspó³zawodnictwa.

Co gorsza, korporacyjna prasa nie zachêca ludzi walcz±cych o konkretne
prawa cz³owieka do swobodnego komunikowania siê i wymiany do¶wiadczeñ
w duchu wspó³pracy a nie rywalizacji. Wrêcz przeciwnie - niszcz±c
solidarno¶æ propaguje fatalizm, pos³uszeñstwo i apatiê.

W Polsce potrzebna jest energiczna, niezale¿na sieæ mediów, które bêd±
przekazywaæ oryginalne, niezale¿ne i nieocenzurowane raporty na temat
rozmaitych pozytywnych dzia³añ na rzecz praw cz³owieka i ¶rodowiska
naturalnego tak, by ich uczestnicy mogli uczyæ siê od siebie oraz
rozwijaæ umiejêtno¶æ koordynacji swoich dzia³añ na poziomie lokalnym.

Ponadto witryny aktywistów i progresywnych grup spo³ecznych s± na ogó³
statyczne i zdominowane przez technologie Micro$oftu. Wprowadzaj±c
dynamiczny i interaktywny przyk³ad Indymediów, zamierzamy promowaæ
kulturê wolnego oprogramowania oraz wolno¶ci publikowania (ang. open
publishing). Promuj±c te kluczowe aspekty kultury Internetu (zw³aszcza
w ma³ych miejscowo¶ciach), mamy nadziejê, ¿e zwykli ludzie bêd± mogli
czerpaæ korzy¶ci z *rzeczywistej* potêgi Sieci, w przeciwieñstwie do
iluzji e-komercji i orwellowskiej kontroli Micro$oftu.

The collapse of communism in Poland has led to a great deal of
confusion about whether economic and social human rights - \"bread and
jobs\" (famous 1956 slogan) should be sacrificed in favour of political
human rights - formal democracy - which in turn should be sacrificed
to private dictatorships and markets which are blind to human
values. Yet, most ordinary people here seem to believe that most of
the human rights are needed and that the environment should be
protected, and are continuing in Poland\'s long tradition of massive
grassroots human rights protests.

The corporate press does give *some* coverage to *some* of these
protests - protests by nurses, miners, ship-builders (ring a bell,
anyone?), teachers have been common throughout 2002 across the
country.  However, it does not discuss serious economic, political or
social methods by which human rights could be strengthened rather than
weakened, it is mostly constrained to the neoliberal economic dogma of
private dictatorhips and the destruction of solidarity (\"competition\").

And worse, the corporate press does not encourage people struggling
for different human rights to communicate freely and efficiently about
how their struggles could be much more effective if coordinated rather
than in competition with one another. Instead, it does its best to
instill fatalism, obedience and apathy. 

So there is a crying need for a vigorously free media network in Poland
which enables original, free and uncensored reporting on all the various,
positive struggles for human and environmental rights in a way that
people can learn from one another and see how to coordinate these locally.

Moreover, web pages by activists and progressive social groups
here are mostly very static and constipated by Micro$oft. By
introducing the much more dynamic and interactive example of
Indymedia, we hope to encourage the complementary cultures of free
software and open publishing. When we introduce these key aspects of
the internet culture in our outreach efforts (especially to small
villages), we hope that ordinary people will be able to immediately
benefit from the *real* power of the internet, rather than be
handcuffed by the illusions of e-commerce and the orwellian control by
Micro$oft.
