dadaIMC, a PHP/MySQL-based system for running IMC web sites, is now at
version .94, and is immediately available for download. A .93->.94
updater is available for existing installations, and a new Perl script
provided by Clint Popetz automates the process of migrating
Active-based sites to dadaIMC while preserving their existing articles
and media files.
dadaIMC .94 has been released under the GNU Lesser General Public
License. For more information, and to download:
http://www.dadaimc.org/
dadaIMC offers a wealth of features not available in Active, and
requires only minimal UNIX knowledge to maintain -- almost everything
you could wish to do can be done through a web-based interface.
New in version .94
==================
-- Fully internationalized. With a translated localization file,
dadaIMC will now display its ENTIRE interface in any supported
language, from date formats to submit buttons. Translators needed! See
http://www.dadaimc.org/dev/.
-- Support for remote distributed content servers (like Loudeye). Any
remote server at your disposal may be used to serve media files. Remote
server is monitored for downtime, and files are served locally if the
remote server is down.
-- Built-in cron job management for scheduled tasks. Only one cron job
is now needed to maintain all recurring tasks.
-- Assignments module for tracking reporters
-- IP-based blocking to prevent newswire spamming
-- Web-based viewing of error log files
-- Cleaner integration with the Radicalendar
-- Increased support for media MIME types
-- Various interface modifications and bug fixes
-- Perl script provided by Clint Popetz allows easy migration from an
existing Active installation. Urbana-Champaign recently converted over
8000 articles and their associated media files. A dummy "front.php3"
script allows "old" URLs to be redirected to their new counterparts.
