Can I suggest that for sites like this domain names with
the year in them are created, for example:
http://cancun2003.indymedia.org/
Or (I prefer this):
http://cancun.2003.indymedia.org/
Then there is no danger that there will be a conflict with
any future events in Cancun that need a site or if people
in that region decide to set up an IMC.
I agree that archiving and persistence is very important,
if people don't think this is an issue please see:
Cool URIs don't change
http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/URI.html
Can I also suggest that if a codebase such as Mir is used
then since it generates static HTML (with SSIs) it is very
easy to host the content that is generated for ever
without having problems in the future due to codes bases
becoming obsolete or unmaintained and thus security
problems. Also since Mir uses a different server for
publishing it is easy to disable publishing at a set point
in time.
