Hey all,
Some of you have probably seen me lurking around on the global IRC
network for some time (blah). In light of some global tech issues I
have heard about I wanted to introduce myself and extend the services
I have a hand in managing to the global tech needs.
I am the acting tech spoke for the U-C IMC located in downtown Urbana,
IL, USA. I earn my daily bread playing Network/Systems Engineer for
the Champaign-Urbana Wireless Network (CUWiN Foundation), Acorn Active
Media, and OJC Technologies, all operating within the U-C IMC
building.
Facilities/Resources
Our data center is located at our facility with dedicated off site
servers located in Toronto, CA, Newark, NJ, US, and New York, NY, US
withing Network Access Corp (www.nac.net) data centers. Minus the
dedicated servers, servers located within our data center are owned by
either U-C IMC, CUWiN Foundation, or Acorn Active Media Foundation and
manged by the Chambana.net project (an U-C IMC tech group project).
The dedicated servers are owned privately by me. The U-C IMC facility
line speed is a 8Mbps/1.5Mbps unmetered business class cable line
provided by Insight Communications peered by Sprint. The dedicated
servers are all on 100Mbit lines with 1000GB metered one way (billed
on the highest direction only). Take a look at
http://www.nac.net/networkmap.asp for NAC peering information. All
line and dedicated server contracts are currently month to month.
Existing servers at our main location (Urbana) include a primary web
and database server, primary mail server, file server, VOIP server,
dev server, and firewall.
web/db server:
Quad Intel Pentium III Xeon 550Mhz
2048MB
FreeBSD
mail server:
AMD Athlon 700Mhz
640MB
Debian GNU/Linux
file server:
Dual AMD MP 2400+ (2.0Ghz)
512MB
700GB available storage
Existing server resources and space at the U-C IMC are available. As
it is now, the U-C IMC pays for both power and bandwidth at the Urbana
facility. We have older 20U+ racks laying around that could be used
as a dedicated racks as well as shelving for non rack mounted
equipment available. The servers located within the U-C IMC are
administered by 4 U-C IMC tech group members who have 24/7 access to
the space. The dedicated servers are available for use but funded out
of my own pocket and are thus not directly managed by the U-C IMC Tech
Group.
As for the cost of bandwidth, power, space, and other services that
may be needed would have to be negotiated on a per proposal. Be
assured that costs, if any, will be substantially lower than most
anything else out there.
Please let me know if there are any questions/concerns or you just
want to generally bash this email/me for being a U-C IMC member :).
Hope we can help,
--
Daniel
