You did the right thing Dave, cheers. I've been killing the connections 
for weeks just to try and keep mysql running. Nice to have a breather :) 
Mysql has been going down several times a day for some time.

I'm just CCing in Roman from Adelaide here, hopefully he can get some 
time to have another look at mod_rewrite and I hope we can get a long 
term solution this time.
