Heya Martin,
To give you a bit of a background ..
Axxs.org is different than netaxxs.com.au. Netaxxs is the workers
collective I am involved in, that does commercial sites and hosting so
we can live/survive (it's one of the few skills I have, and I am by no
means a guru, ask anyone;) I do it to get by.
Basically a few folk left a commercial ISP operation that wasn't looking
out for it's workers, and started something that is more worker focussed
(equal pay, equal say, kinda stuff) We basically are working to live,
not living to work;) and as part of our getting by, as we got to the
point of being able too, funded axxs.org to get started to share that
knowledge we are gaining, and to connect with other geeks in the same
boss/employee boat that we found ourselves in. A 'vision' down the track
was to form the basis of a union of tech workers, using anarchist
principles as a basis for our organisation methods. By no means to we
say we are pure anarchist in practice, but by golly, we are trying our
best to get to that point and explore practical ideas in that vein,
while surviving in the current climate, and feeding ourselves.
transparency we see as the key.
Axxs.org is made up of various geeks from all walks of life, and the
aims are dynamic, and basically come down to a group decision on process
atm as things happen, and as we work to get things a bit more solidified
in that regard.
So generally, people propose what they want to do on this list, and what
they want to use the services for, and we as a group make a decision on
that basis.
By all means, just chat to us about what your doing or want to do, we
are all strong believers in mutual aid, and supporting each other so
that we are all stronger for it, and that the end-users also win out
because of that.
There's a lot to do in the way of organisation yet, it's hard for many
as we are working at the same time, and not just doing this in our 'free
time', but axxs.org unlike many 'open collectives', recognise the worker
and supporting them to become self-sustainable outside the traditional
employer situation. If that takes giving a platform for someone to do
that, we discuss it openly and transparently. The basis is transparency
in what we do. We can only learn from where we are heading, and find out
how things will work as we go. treading new ground as it was ...
I hope that makes sense ;) I've only been short, and that's only my
take, one out of quite a few people involved in axxs.org. So I suggest
you get together what your wanting to do (as you have done in a way) and
we'll all see what we can do to help you, so that you can help us, and
we can all help each other! (yay!;)
I personally give my support +1 to getting some space for Martin
together to muck around, on the basis that he join this list, and be
open to supporting and helping out sites on it where and when he can.
ie: get involved and be transparent in his work on the server
This also begs the question regarding the difference between the geeks
with sudo access and thus a higher level responsibility (not ability) as
compared to users that don't. I think breaking up decision making into
the various areas of expertise/ability is a primary focus, with a
methodology (such as a spokescouncil format) for working between them,
we need to work out how we organise as things grow. break in periods if
needed, etc etc etc etc etc ad infinitum :) sigh hehe lots to do
we need that wiki, should I just setup a temp ZWiki on axxs.org main
site? would take 5 mins .....
cheers Martin, all.
