Subject: [inciteboston] A talk with author and Iraqi feminist Nadje Al-Ali !

Come and meet feminist, author and Iraqi women's spokesperson,
     Nadje Al-Ali
     speaking on
Iraqi Women between Dictatorships, War, Sanctions, and Occupation

Sunday, April 15, 3-5 PM Building E51-095, 2 Amherst St. (between Main and
Memorial Drive. 2 short blocks from Kendall T)

Nadje Al-Ali is a senior lecturer in social anthropology at the Institute
of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter, UK. She is the
author of Iraqi Women: Untold Stories from 1948 to the Present
(forthcoming, March 2007, Zed Publishers). Gathered from more than 200
interviews, Al-Ali weaves together formally untold stories of Iraqi women
from different generations, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. While
focusing on women's experiences, Al-Ali also explores the multitude of
issues related to political repression under Saddam Hussein, sectarianism,
 wars, sanctions, and occupation.

At a time when women are facing a double jeopardy in Iraq from US forces
and Islamic militia, this is an extraordinary opportunity to hear what is
 really happening.

Although the timing of this event is a holiday weekend which is
challenging, we hope you make the time to be part of this historical
 moment.

Free and Open to the public.

Co-sponsored by the Center for New Words, the Cambridge Peace Commission,
the Cambridge Women's Commission, and Women's Studies at MIT.

This event is part of marking "Cambridge as a City of Peace" in 2007.
