Subject: [sdpannounce] Special Event: Cindy & Craig Corrie, Sunday April
20th, 4pm, Donate to SDP !
Dear SDP folks and others...
Please forward this announcement to friends....
On Sunday Apr 20th, 4pm, at Christ Church in Cambridge (Zero Garden St near the Cambridge Common), Cindy and Craig Corrie, the parents of Rachel Corrie, will speak at an event hosted by the Somerville Divestment Project.
Rachel Corrie, an American human rights activist, was killed by an Israeli soldier who crushed her with a Caterpillar bulldozer while she defended a Palestinian home from destruction.
The Corrie's will speak about the campaign for an independent American investigation into the killing of their daughter and the campaign to hold the Caterpillar company accountable. The Corries are suing Caterpillar for supplying Israel with weapons that the company knew would be used for human rights violations. The ongoing struggle for justice and human rights in the Middle East will also be discussed.
This event is being sponsored by the Somerville Divestment Project.
The Somerville Divestment Project (SDP) educates citizens to take action to support human rights for all people, including Palestinians. SDP educated citizens about the Right of Return of Palestinians, from the homes which they were ethnically cleansed from, resulting in 45% of Somerville voters supporting the Right of Return of Palestinian refugees ! This was an unprecedented result.
Recently SDP has spread it's organizing efforts to Cambridge and JP and also fine-tuned two documents: One document is on the Right of Return and the other is on "Why our government supports Israel and why we shouldn't". The latter document examines the underlying reasons why US policy works against human rights and helps people develop a framework for understanding the conflict at the root-cause level.
SDP needs your financial support ! Your financial contribution helps SDP produce colorful educational literature, cover organizational expenses, pay organizing staffpersons, and most importantly spread our door-to-door, person-to-person organizing approach to other municipalities. SDP has spear-headed efforts in Cambridge and JP and inspired efforts in other cities in the U.S. to use our bottom up approach to mobilizing citizens.
Please consider donating $100 to help our efforts grow. We guarantee that the bulk of your contribution will go towards grassroots organizing. We are planning to reproduce DVDs for our Somerville supporters that highlights the discrimination inside of Israel - a topic often overlooked. Your contribution will assist in this effort to bolster our grassroots support.
SDP opposes all attacks by anyone, anywhere, and at any time where unarmed civilian casualties are clearly likely, whether the attacks are aggressive or retaliatory.
Contributions can be made directly online by going to www.divestmentproject.org and clicking on "donations". It's easy !
you can also mail your contribution to
