Subject: [BAAM!announce] CORI Hearing Monday!
We are asking all supporters of CORI reform to join us this
Monday for a critical hearing!
CORI Hearing on Health and Human Service Positions
December 22th @ 9:30am - 11:30am
100 Cambridge Street, Boston
Conference Room B, 2nd Floor
(1 block pass JFK, walking from gov't center)
The Boston Workers' Alliance helped win a major victory in January 08 by
securing an Executive Order on CORI Dissemination by Governor Patrick.
A central measure of this Order was to revamp the policies that prevented
people with CORIs from working in health care and human service positions.
This month, the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) has
released new and improved regulations for public comment.
We are proud that the new regulations includes our "ban the box"
proposal, which will remove the criminal record question from initial job
applicants, and only allows CORI checks for applicants who are otherwise
qualified for the job. This policy will impact over 180,000 positions,
and affect thousands of agencies across the state.
Please join us on Monday @ 9:30am to learn about the proposed regulations, and
to testify in support of real CORI reform. We consider this the first
major step forward for our statewide reform efforts, and must flood the hearing
room to improve the proposed regulation while defending the reforms that we
have won so far.
Visit www.BostonWorkersAlliance.org to download the new EOHHS regulations, and read a BWA fact sheet on the
proposed changes.
Please help spread the word, and join us on Monday morning!
