[Boston-editorial] NYC article in local ON PURPOSE

Uh, guys, we're talking about the newswire here, not the center column.
I don't think there's a need to get all worked up about what goes where
on the newswire. I'm kind of flexible on what I leave in the local
section of the newswire myself--I sometimes leave up stuff that's not
Boston specific if it's in the Northeast, especially if it's a
conference or a large march or something. Some of it has to do with
whether or not I like the group organizing the event. We really do not
need to worry about this right now with so many other things on our
plate.
I agree with Pete that we should table the discussion on editorial
policy until after the DNC, when a) we will have the time and b) our
nerves will be less frazzled and the conversation will probably be more
civil. I think we agreed over this e-mail list on an interim measure to
deal with the center column--before putting something that doesn't fit
the guidelines in the center column, check in with other members of the
editorial collective by e-mail list or phone, with an explanation of
why. This is actually what I'll advocate in our post-DNC discussion.
Regardless of what you think, it seems like a reasonable short-term
compromise and nobody objected when Pete and I were batting the idea
back and forth across this list.
And just a reminder. We all sometimes write e-mail messages in haste.
Sometimes the tone of an e-mail message doesn't come across the way you
intend it to because of the lack of the face-to-face visual cues, or
even the tone-of-voice cues you'd get by phone. And I suspect most folks
nerves are somewhat fried right now from all the DNC stuff, so they're
not going to be at their best expressing themselves. Let's all give each
other a break.
