I agree with what John has said here. 

If it's a story that someone can stand behind and take responsibility
for, and it's relevant to our audience, then there's a lot to be said
for running it, with a mind towards our responsibilities to the people
involved.

If we aren't able to really check it out and feel confident (and I'm
afraid that I am unable to be of any help here) then I think we should
err on the side of caution, as Svea has been doing.
