[Boston-editorial] Matt: article for center column? (different)

oops- I guess you did give your opinion. didn't see
that.

So i'll throw in more of mine, and try not to get too
adversarial if i can, because you know I love you
guys.

In my mind, and in most of the news organizations I
have observed, the news cycle is a very important
thing. It happens fast. If something happened
yesterday and people want to know about it they search
for news on it today.

When that article in the herald came out it was a buzz
for a week or so in the community. Articles went up
on infoshop and I think we even had a small mention of
it, and other places. Nobody posted a big article
about it to our site, none of us wrote a piece on it,
we missed it. That's where the problem lies. We
should have been on it then.

I think if we were to center it now, a month later, it
is an issue that people have already read a great deal
about, talked about, mulled over, gotten over, and
almost forgotten, we would look like we were

a.) behind the times
b.) confused as to when the article actually came out
c.) generally unsavvy about the idea of the news cycle

THis may not seem like a big deal to folks, but I thnk
it is a really big deal. It means our critics have
stuff to point at and say "they're so hopelessly out
of date" and our fans could say "damn that happened a
month ago, WTF"

OK i've said my bit, now I'll get off my soapbox for a
while.

-Pete
