[Boston-editorial] deleting comments?

I guess they're trollish enough to hide. They're not say anything
constructive--just making snide comments.
It's important to distinguish between hiding and deleting comments.
With comments we have hidden, people can go to the hidden articles page
http://boston.indymedia.org/newswire/hidden/index.php and click on the
link to see them. When we delete articles, a log of the deletion
appears on the deleted articles page
http://boston.indymedia.org/newswire/deleted/index.php but there's no
way to see them. (A logged in editor can see deleted articles at
http://boston.indymedia.org/editor and browsing through the listings
for those marked deleted.)
We generally only hide articles. We only delete things in extreme
circumstances--postings by those who have be personae non gratae
(Stephen DeVoy, KOBE, and Flipside) and posts containing downloads
(audio files, video files, PDFs or Word documents) that are racist or
otherwise bigoted (some white supremacist groups were posting such
downloads to the site and then linking to them from their own websites.
Even after they were hidden, people could still download the materials.
Since we have no desire to serve as an archive service for white
supremacists, we began deleting such posts.). When we delete files, we
select the "mark as deleted" option--that way we can undelete it if
need be and there's a record of the deletion available for all to see
on the deleted articles page. If you choose purge, it's lost forever.
