[Boston-editorial] moving editorial mtg? and more on editorial content

hi,

Since both Jon and I can't come to the meeting this
Sunday, is there any chance we could meet later in the
week? Maybe Wednesday or Thursday? I do think that
more editors would help clear up some of the hateful
comments on the site, and we could dig in on policy
some more. Like I've said before, I don't feel
comfortable centering or de-centering articles. I
would just like to help with general comments
clean-up.

Ie, the content. I think it's best not to just shut
down the voice of the opposition. I love how the more
thoughtful comments promote dialogue.

Earlier last month I collected some of the ideas that
have been floating on this list (which have been
great, by the way), and I really think we could some
great headway if we just talk about them in person and
zero down on the ones we all agree on. Here is the
list (sorry if I'm missing some! see Questions also
for help on thinking the site re-design):

CENTERING ARTICLES (What we don't center):

- press releases
- calls for action, unless they are backed up by an
actual article
- event announcements, unless the collective is
working on it and sees fit. For example,
coverage/announcement of the DNC (this could require
voting)
- direct political party sponsorship

HIDING/DELETING ARTICLES (What we like to
hide/delete):

- posts by fascist orgs
- racists, sexist, or post promoting hate
- death threats
- slanderous posts (particularly when they include
photos & phone numbers)--this one is sketchy
- posts that promote direct violence (as opposed to
"militant resistance")
- anything that promotes corporate sponsorship
- posts discreting Indymedia

QUESTIONS:
- what about art? should we allow space for art, have
a special section for it?
- should we have a special section for press releases
since we don't center them?

my best to all,
Sofia
