Ok there really is no new crisis but an old one has become particularly acute.
We need to get together and discuss editorial policy. I will not be at the general meeting, I have a date with my wife. But I am free next weekend. Can anyone else commit to coming?
Here is what just happened: I was on the sight and was reading the comments to Sofia's latest soon-to-be-award winning article and I wanted to respond to one of the comments. So I wrote my sarcastic drivel and posted it, (under the pseudonym Zoots), only to find that the opinion I was disagreeing with had just been hidden. Alas, I was in shock. So I went and found it and began to reflect . . .Should I re-instate it? Is this "disruptive" and thus deserving of being hidden, in my humble opinion? I decided "Yes," to the first question and "No" to the second question. In other words, I reinstated the comment because I felt it was a relevant comment to the issues described in Sofia's article, although I do not agree with it.
The problem for me, and I think for us, is that this particular statement was made by Veteran, the latest nomenclature of a member of the peanut gallery. Veteran has been posting for a few weeks and he always has the same perspective and a lot of times he is condescending and rude, but . . . sometimes, as I believe he is in this case, he represents the opinion of a reasonably significant number of people in our community. I think we need to let that voice be represented or we are in danger of becoming left wing propagandists. (I am not a leftist, so I don't want that to happen.)
Anyway, if someone decides they just really disagree with me that is fine . . .Just go re-hide the article, and I will not say another word, until we get together and hammer out a more structured editorial policy . . . but I ask that Sally Shears not re-hide this article, because she is the one with whom I already know I disagree, and I would like a third party to decide the issue.
So when can we meet?
Love and respect,
Jamie
Also, Sally hid the comments with the claim that they conatined no news. Is it policy that our comments sections are supposed to? I thought they were just places to write opinions etc. Kind of like a very informal editorial page.
