I don't think it's about posting or not, it's about posting in the right
place.  I think a note saying, hey checkout the calendar would be
appropriate.   On the other hand I don't know if the calendar is as visible
as we might like, this is probably why events get posted to the newswire, if
people don't see the calendar to post they sure aren't going to see it for
events (though perhaps they just don't know it's publicly writable...)
