I am hoping I am not coming across as blocking every
suggestion Sofia has for the site, but again I have
some serious reservations on this one.
I'll list them to make it easy to read. -Peace!
1.) this does not seem to contain original reporting.
Everything is the Herald said this The herald said
that. This is the kind of thing that is roundly
criticized on other indymedia sites as "cut and paste
journalism" or the slightly better "cut and paste +1"
where the writer interviews only one person. I think
we owe it to our other writers who work hard to hold a
standard in this area.
2.) It's from workers.orgAnd it shows. What I mean is
that the writer is not giving the reader a chance to
make up his/her own mind about things, and instead
comes out calling bush admin everything in the book.
This may all be true but people will not trust an
article that says these things instead of showing it
with solid investigative reporting that captures bush
saying the N word or something equally wrong.
3.) It's from workers.orgAnd there's a reason for the
differences. The WWP supports Kim Jong Il, Stalin and
other dictators. Affiliation with the WWP is not a
good sign of high Journalistic ability and
thoughtfulness. If you don't investigate thoroughly
the org you are in, you aren't going to bring out the
facts to well in stories.
Bryan Pfeifer's been good at trying to include facts
and details and show rather than say, so he is an
example of us being fair to these folks. (we center
his stuff often) But this one, IMHO, doesn't rate the
same respect.
4.) I think it isn't neccesary but it's always better
when it can be somehow localized. I wish we could nail
down a local author. Should we approach Gelbspan? He
did a great editorial in the Globe. Myabe he can do
something for us.
However, I would like to say that I do very much
appreciate the fact that you are combing through all
this stuff Sofia, and I would love to work together
and talk together more about some of these ideas so we
can come to some sort of agreement on what is and what
isn't center material.
