Subject: [mayday] Reminder: March on Harvard Tomorrow.
This Thursday, December 14th, Allston/Brighton is marching on Harvard
Yard in defense of our neighborhood.
Why are we marching?
-For decades, Harvard has used fake real estate companies to buy up huge
tracks of land throughout Lower (North) Allston and North Brighton
-Harvard has co-opted the board of the low income Charlesview Apartments
in a plan to remove the tenants against their will and without their
consent
-Harvard wants to totally remodel our neighborhood, build new roads, tear
down homes, shut down small businesses, push out working families to make
room for more college students, and Harvard alumns
-Harvard plans to build a biotechnology complex all along Western Ave,
where they will perform vivisection, cloning, and other environmentally
devastating practices to the detriment of the rest of us
-And most of all, we are marching because Harvard has made all of these
plans behind closed doors, without any real involvement of our community.
They have slated December 15th as the last day of the "comment period,"
where they claim they will listen to our voices. We have attended the
public meetings they have held and we have been ignored. We have sent them
letters and emails, written articles, held rallies, but they pay us no
respect.
Therefore, on December 14th, we will march on Harvard Yard, and they will
no longer be able to ignore us.
Rally at 3pm at the parking lot of the Charlesview Apartments near 51
stadium way (on the Western Ave side). At 4pm, we march to Harvard. We
will rally again between 4:30 and 5:30 at Harvard's Holyoke Center (next
to Au Bon Pain) in Harvard Square. Bring signs, banners, noise-makers,
instruments, puppets, your walking shoes, and your voice. They may be one
of the richest institutions in the country, but united we are stronger
than all of their money. Its time we stand up together and be heard.
March called by the Charlesview Tenants Association and the
Allston/Brighton Collective for Popular Assemblies
