hi ya'll,
I've tried contacting svea & sharpie directly via email about introducing alex into the Editorial collective, without avail... Next step is calling them. I'll try to make sure they weigh in the issue to see how we can go about this smoothly.
Dana, I'm copying you on this email because I'm not sure you're on the editorial list... Mainly, I've made a proposal of bringing a new editor, Alex, whom I've personally met and trust would do an excellent job in keeping the site troll-clean.
Jon suggested that initially Alex gets privileges on Hidding only, No Deletion, No Centering. After the 2 months we can review his privileges.
Jamie mentioned that "if the person is going to be added, I think they should agree to come to at least the next two meetings. IMC is a culture built on relationships."
I agree with Alex coming at least to our next two monthly/editorial meetings... Although it does worry me that we don't seem able to meet often enough.
Alex, thanks for your patience!
peace,
Sofia
Ps: I would move this to the Discuss section, but I'm not 100% sure who is checking that? It seems Editorial is more active at the moment? Don't know...

i guess this is where i weigh in- my name's alex and i'm the person sofia had suggested giving editorial privileges. i appreciate the caution you are showing in adding someone who is an unknown quantity. it might help to have a bit of background: i've been an activist in boston for several years, and have worked on and off with imc-bos since its inception around the biodevastation protests in 2000. some of the oldheads like jon grebe will remember me, as will svea, with whom i worked a bit later, though she seems to be taking a break too. in fact i still have some of imc's gear, printer, etc.
anyhow, i never did editing on the site, since my computer skills are minimal, and would need a primer to get started anyway, so i'd be fine with coming to one or two general meetings. it's just that i can't really commit to regular physical meetings...
about using standard names when hiding comments- i think there is a useful accountability function in keeping separate names for editors, but nothing wrong with coming up with standard codes for why item are being hidden. might make the process seem less arbitrary, while letting others (and ourselves) know who was responsible.
ok, hope to see you all soon.
ona move,
alex
