Hey folks,
Thanks to everybody that helped with the last
issue. We've gotten a ton of good feedback from it
and we have tons of new contacts and potential ad
customers to work with once we get back on track
again. Right now we ALL need to focus on fundraising.
Thanks to a donation from the Boston Social
Forum/Jason Pramas, our "Sideshow" fundraiser, our
Bush TP ad, a subscription purchased by the Wisconsin
Historical Society and other donations we now have
upwards of eight hundred dollars for the paper. But
we need more, much more. We need to go on the biggest
fundraising drive ever in the history of the IMC. WE
need enough mula to make us feel like we can
definitely last 6 months in the tough newspaper biz.
In light of this, and the fact that I am going to be
on vacation untill Aug 22, I think we should set the
date of our first regular issue into Mid September,
I'm going to call New York so we can get on a par with
them for publishing times and have an exact date.
Meanwhile I need folks to start stepping up to the
plate and coming up with great fundraising ideas.
Most of our potential for making money comes directly
from folks like us, and maybe some rich individuals.
WE need to find as many ways to make contact with
these folks as possible, and we need to record each
time we contact them. This means holding events I
think. We can use spaces like the LPC, Spontaneous,
and others. We have the media to play events up, and
people are really psyched up about indymedia right
now. I can help from afar by calling folks,
organizing and promoting on the web. but somebody here
needs to come up with ideas and execute them.
Second on our priority list is ads- Rob and I are
going to be producing ad packets that include pricing
etc, and contracts for folks to sign. Contracts tie
them in to multiple ads so were not selling them every
week.
Third on our priority list is Space. Everyone should
cast an eye out for free or very cheap space. We'd
like to have nice space with windows, and ideally
someplace we could have open to the public. Perfect
neighborhoods would be Roxbury, JP, Boston, or
Cambridge. and near the T is cool too. But all of
this is secondary to just actually having space, a
shitty locale is better than none at all.
OUR NEXT MEETING should be soon, this week even, but I
think someone else should determine a date good for
all since I will be gone. I will start the process
though by suggesting that everyone interested in
coming state the evenings, weekend days of the week
that they absolutely cannot come, and maybe their
preference for a day they can. This will hopefully
become a permanent day for a weekly meeting in the
future.
Have fun y'all!
I will be sending in stories to the website as I cross
the country!
-Pete
