On my own I contacted Ben from What's up and among
other things we worked out an idea for an Indymedia
sidebar in What's up magazine regularly from now on.
I have committed myself to bottomlining the thing and
making sure it's in by deadline -I can write it if
others aren't interested but I want others to get
involved too. I see it as possibly becoming related to
headlines on the SCAT show and Sounds of Dissent,
maybe just by trading our notes.
Let me say first that What's up is interested in
recieving full articles from Indymedia members at
anytime, and their deadline is a month in advance.
But this idea is different and goes thusly:
We would get two sidebars (Approx 500 wds x2) for
local, national, and world news briefs. so the title
of the thing might be Indy(world)media or something of
the sort. Each brief would be in the area of 100-150
words or less. Each brief would tell the reader where
to go to read more on the web. So if, for instance,
we were going to press right now we might highlight
Local:
the last DNC case was aquitted,
the somerville 5 defense is rallying
National
New battles at Pacifica Radio
Mountain Justice Summer fights mountain top removal
Rainbow family tried en mass in woods
World
G8 mobilization in Scotland
Bristol UK server seized
Zapatista's issue Red Alert
That's just a quick view of course. Maybe not seeing
everything- and I would like to translate stuff from
South America too.
The idea would be to cross promote everything and also
use this as an outreach tool. Our phone number,
email, and web address would be included and we could
rotate plugs for radio and TV shows and events.
What I need help with:
Developing a template for it- Anybody know indesign or
Quark? If I had a little training I could adjust the
thing but need a nice design to start out with.
Spanish, portugeuse, and other translators to monitor
Indymedia news and let me know if something would work
(and to write the blurbs).
folks to suggest things to be included.
That's all email the print list if interested...
