Greetings:

The show last night was unique and wonderful in the sense that one of our
own was able to call in live from Baghdad. A new face showed up, Chris from
Brazil, and he seems enthusiastic.

In the effort of recruitment, I would like to post something to the radio
list and video announce list regarding our search for new volunteers. I will
also continue to cast a wider net. May I send you all a draft for your review
or can I just send something out?

Is anyone available to do a show next Thursday, November 3rd? We have a
guest willing to come from Common Cause regarding redistricting in
Massachusetts. I would prefer not to host and this is my main thought for today that has
been on my mind.

Up until last night, all of the guests that I have interviewed were either
women or someone of racial diversity or both. Last night I interviewed a
white male. Here we have a white male, me, interviewing another white male. Now
I regret that I am a white male in the sense that we are the dominant face
of news and talk television and radio. Because of this I think we should
think about the race and sex of those hosting shows and the guests we interview.
Even on public television the percentage of white males interviewed is
extremely high, never mind the race and gender of the hosts. As I am helping to
schedule guests, I would also like to keep this as a concern if the group
concurs. It would even make sense to keep a record of the guests we have on the
show so that we don't fall into this pattern. But at least if we have a
white male guest it would be nice to have a non-white male host so it isn't the
dominant talking heads that I felt like last night.

The quality and performance of whoever is hosting should also be included in
this dimension. Just because someone wants to host, whoever it is, we
should also try our best to give the best production we can and that means
insuring that hosts are talented or willing to improve.

I really enjoy hosting and would like to do more of it. I'm particularly
eager to use the larger studio for special productions in which I could flex my
debating skills and abilities to articulate a clear argument and vision for
the Left while effectively diminishing the myths and misconstrued arguments
of the Right. I realize this statement is simplistic given the spectrum of
left liberal ideologies of this group, but I think you get my point and my
dream.

Perhaps I'll see some of you Sunday night.

Never Surrender,

Andrew
