!ULTIMA HORA!
Intentan frustrar jornada ambientalista

Naguabo. Que nadie se preocupe. La lucha continua!
-enfatizo el lider ambiental, Tito Kayak-

BREAKING NEWS

Attempt to Frustrate an Enviromental Journey

Tuesday, August 3, 2004

The enviromental group Amigos del Mar (Friends of the Sea) was left stranded
on the island of Tortola. For motives unknown to the group, Captain Francis
Cruz decided to abort his commitment to Amigos del Mar. He abandoned the group,
leaving the group without permission to stayon the British island of Tortola.
Captain Cruz took with him the group's provisions and equiptment including
two kayaks that were to be used the next day on the jouney from Anegada to
Puerto Rico.

Mr. Chiri Vassallo of Vassallo Enterprises. sponsor of the event and the
owner of the launch and both kayaks was not informed of the action by his employee
Captain Cruz. The deserter captain also refused to converse on the telephone
before he abandoned the members of the group.

Environmental leader Alberto de Jesus (Tito Kayak) stated:
"Today we cannot get to Anegada as we had programed. And without a doubt
this journey will be much more difficult than we had planned. Although we are in
unfavorable conditions and without economic resources, we maintain our high
spirits and our determined will to continue until the end of this journey."

Members of Amigos del MAR, a Puerto Rican environmental organization started
their journey from Puerto Rico last Monday at dawn. They will carry out a
series of conscious raising environmental activities centering on the ecological
integration of the Caribbean region. The programed activities included a five
day journey by kayak from Anegada to Puerto Rico.

The environmental brigade is composed of the following members Alberto de
Jesus, Nacho Pesquera, Carlos Perez, Humberto Trias and Gazir Sued. They are on
the British Island of Tortola with a special permission for one day. The
brigade is trying to coordinate its subsequent activities so as to complete fully
all the goals set out for their mission.

"We will not stop. It will be difficult. Much more difficult. We have
neither the equipment nor enough of the necessary provisions. We don't even have an
escort launch for security. But, we will continue our journey until the
journey's end. We will continue with our pledge to take our message of solidarity
with the regional integration of Caribbean Islands into environmental
struggles. It will take more than just one person of bad faith to stop us. Tomorrow
the kayak journey will start. We will carry it out with the resources we have
at hand. Even though the risks will be greater. Friday we will be in Culebra,
Saturday in Vieques and on Sunday we will arrive at Hucares Beach in
Naguabo on the main island of Puerto Rico. Do not be worried. The struggle
continues!" statement by Alberto de Jesus (Tito Kayak)
