Bishops who burn with perverse desires and prey on their own spiritual sons…
Priests who sexually assault young boys given up to their care…
Pederast clerics who use the confessional to seduce new victims….
Priests who commit the grave sin of sacrilege by absolving each other from the sin of sodomy and other unnatural acts…
Does this sound like a recent story from the front-page of the Boston Globe? Actually, these accusations against homosexual prelates and religious can be found in St. Peter Damian’s treatise Book of Gomorrah written in 1049 AD. The difference between then and now is that while Damian was able to enlist the support of the reigning pontiff, Saint Leo IX, to clean-up the moral pollution afflicting his clerical contemporaries in a sweeping program of Church reform, Pope Benedict XVI and his immediate predecessors have been either unable or unwilling to rid the Church of sodomites within its own hierarchy and priestly ranks. The result has been a rash of homosexual and pederastic scandals at home and abroad which have rocked the Roman Catholic Church to its very foundation. (Excerpted from The Rite of Sodomy, Chapter 2, “The Early Church.”)
