Llega a Puerto Rico Red Internacional de Mujeres Contra el Militarismo
San Juan- La Red Internacional de Mujeres en Contra del Militarismo,
integrada por representantes de las Filipinas, Islas Marshall, Corea del
Sur, Okinawa, Guahan, Japón, Hawaii y los Estados Unidos, se reunirán en
Puerto Rico del 19 al 24 de febrero.
Con el tema “Forjando Redes hacia la Desmilitarización y la Seguridad
Genuina”, 28 mujeres evaluarán la creciente amenaza militar y desarrollarán
estrategias para contrarrestar el impacto del militarismo y la contaminación
militar, el imperialismo y los sistemas de opresión y explotación basadas en
el género, raza, clase, nacionalidad y orientación sexual.
La reunión de la Red Internacional de Mujeres en Contra del Militarismo, de
la cual Puerto Rico es parte, esta coordinada por el Colectivo Ilé, Alianza
de Mujeres Viequenses, Centro Mujer y Nueva Familia y auspiciada por el
Proyecto Caribeño de Justicia y Paz, el Comité Pro Rescate y Desarrollo de
Vieques, la Cátedra Unesco de Educación para la Paz de la Universidad de
Puerto Rico, Amnistía Internacional de Puerto Rico, Madres Contra la Guerra,
el Taller Lésbico Creativo, la Federación de Estudiantes de Trabajo Social
de la Escuela Graduada de Trabajo Social Beatriz Lasalle, de la Universidad
de Puerto Rico y la Comisión de la Mujer del Colegio de Abogados/as de
Puerto Rico.
Entre las actividades que llevarán a cabo, se invita al público en general a
participar del acto de bienvenida que tendrá lugar el domingo 19 de febrero
a las 6:00 de la tarde, en la Comunidad Religiosa Jesús Mediador, del sector
el Volcán, en el Barrio Hato Tejas de Bayamón. El evento cuenta con la
participación del Taller Tambuyé, Papel Machete y el Círculo de Tambores de
Jesús Mediador.
El lunes 20 de febrero a las 6:30 de la tarde, en la Comunidad Religiosa
Jesús Mediador, sede de la delegación, se presentará la película“A lo largo
del perímetro/Living Along the Fenceline”, por LinaHoshino, cineasta
japonesa. La actividad es abierta al público y es una excelente oportunidad
para dialogar con las visitantes.
El martes 21 de febrero, a partir de las 10:00 de la mañana, la delegación
visitará el Centro Mujer y Nueva Familia en Barranquitas. El Alcalde de la
ciudad recibirá con una proclama de bienvenida a las visitantes. Habrá un
conversatorio con el grupo de apoyo Las Cimarronas y una conferencia sobre
el Militarismo en Puerto Rico por Sonia Santiago de Madres Contra la Guerra.
La actividad es abierta el público. La dirección es Calle Barceló, carretera
156, en el casco del pueblo de Barranquitas.
El miércoles 21 de febrero de 6:00 a 8:30 de la noche, en el Anfiteatro #3
de la Facultad de Educación del Recinto de Río Piedras de la Universidad de
Puerto Rico, se celebrará el panel “Forjando Redes Hacia la
Desmilitarización y la Seguridad Genuina”, que comprende un informe de cada
país participante.
El jueves 22 de febrero en la mañana, la delegación será recibida por la
Alianza Pro Desarrollo de Ceiba, donde en horas de la tarde partirán hacia
la isla municipio de Vieques. La Alcaldesa de Vieques dará la bienvenida con
una proclama. La delegación se reunirá con la Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses
y el Comité Pro Rescate y Desarrollo de Vieques, en el Museo Fuerte Conde de
Mirasol.
El viernes 23 de febrero de 8:00 a 9:00 de la mañana, se llevará a cabo una
ceremonia y ofrecimiento por los pacientes, sobrevivientes y ancestros/as
fallecidos por cáncer y la contaminación militar. El punto de partida para
el ritual será el hotel Ocean View en Vieques. A partir de las 6:00 de la
tarde, en el Fuerte Museo Conde de Mirasol, se celebrará un intercambio
cultural y la participantes presentarán su informe de país y conclusiones
para el cierre.

International Network of Women Against Militarism arrives in Puerto Rico
SJ The International Network of Women Against Militarism, made up of
representatives from the Phillipines, Marshall Islands, South Korea,
Okinawa, Guahan, Japan, Hawaii and the US, will meet in Puerto Rico from 19
to 24 February.
Under the theme, “Forging Networks for Demilitarization and Genuine
Security”, 28 women will evaluate the growing military threat and develop
strategies to counter the impact of militarism and military contamination,
imperialism and systems of oppression based upon gender, race, class,
nationality and sexual orientation.
The meeting of the International Network of Women Against Militarism, in
which Puerto Rico is a member, is coordinated by the Ilé Collective, Vieques
Womens Alliance, Center for Women and the New Family and sponsored by the
Caribbean Project for Peace and Justice, the Committee for the Rescue and
Development of Vieques, the UPR/UNESCO Chair for Peace Education, Amnesty
International of Puerto Rico, Mothers Against War, Creative Lesbian
Workshop, Federation of Students of the Graduate School of Social Work UPR
and the Womens Commission of the Puerto Rico Bar Association.
Among the activities to take place, the public is invited to participate in
the welcoming acts on Sunday, February 19 at 6:PM, at the Jesus Mediator
Religious Community, at Volcán sector, Barrio Hato Tejas in Bayamón. The
event will include participation by Tambuyé Workshop, Paper Maché and the
Drum Circle of Jesus Mediador.
On Monday, February 20 at 6:30 in the afternoon, at Jesus Mediator Religious
Community, headquarters for the delegation, the movie, “Living Along the
Fenceline”, by Lina Hoshin, Japonese filmmaker will be shown. The activity
is open to the public and offers an excellent opportunity to speak with the
visitors.
On Tuesday, February 21, beginning at 10:00AM, the delegates will vist the
Womens Center and New Family office in Barranquitas. That city’s mayor will
received the group with a welcoming proclamation. There will be a
conversation with the support group, Las Cimarronas and a conference on
militarism in Puerto Rico by Sonia Santiago, of Mothers Against War. The
activity is open to the public and will take place at Barceló St., Road 156,
in the town of Barranquitas.
On Wednesday, February 21 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM, in Auditorium #3, Education
Faculty, UPR Río Piedras, there will be a panel titles, “Forging Networks
toward Demilitarization and Genuine Security”, with country reports from
each participant.
On Thursday, February 22 in the morning, the delegation will be received by
the Alliance for the Development of Ceiba and later in the afternoon will
depart for the island municipality of Vieques. The mayor of Vieques will
welcome the group with a proclamation. The delegats will meet with the
Vieques Women’s Alliance and the Committee for the Rescue and Development of
Vieques at the Fort Count Mirasol Museum.
On Friday, 23 February from 8 to 9:00 AM, there will be a ceremony and
offering for patients, survivors and anscestors of victims of cancer and
military contamination. The act will begin at the Ocean View Hotel in
Vieques. At six in the afternoon at the Fort Count Mirasol Museum, there
will be a cultural exchange and participants will offer country reports and
conclusions.
