Workers Democracy calls in mass attendance in the events that will take place in the Morphou 1st September
   
The "Platform This Country is Ours" decided to stage the rally for 1st September, the peace world day of action of trade unions, in Morphou rather than in Inonou Square as it was originally planned. It is a very important decision that we greet hand and soul. 
This decision expresses with the most intense way the response of the Turkish Cypriots and especially of their trade unions and the labour movement’s organisations for the bomb attack against the Church of Agios Mamas. It is a direct action of solidarity for the pilgrims who would like to attend the religious services at the Church in celebration of the saint’s name day on 1-2 September and the festival in Morphou for first time after thirty years. 
Such a decision constitutes a slap for the nationalists’ attempt in both sides to prevent such events. 
It is a historical decision that it may signal a turning-point for the developments in Cyprus and it may constitute the starting line and spark off a mass rapprochement movement. It is perhaps the first time after decades that ordinary people of one of the two sides show immediately and decisively in a mass level, their concern to defend the democratic rights of the ordinary people of other side. 
Two years after of movement’s retreat brought by the political fermentation due to Anan’s plan the movement arises again in the forefront and it shows that it can be the decisive factor for any developments in the Cyprus issue. It shows with the strongest way that those that can really bring and guarantee peace and democracy in the island, are the ordinary people of both sides and not any bloodstained world rulers and their acolytes that want use our island as a stepping stone for their war plans. 
This is the reason why we should support en mass the rally in Morphou organised by the Platform “This Country is Ours" on Wednesday 1st September. All those who seek to build a peaceful and democratic settlement of the Cyprus issue, all those who we want to transform the island into a bridge of friendship and solidarity among the ordinary people of the island and of the greater region should all be there in order to set up a real festival of peace and fraternisation.
