Hey y'all.
One bit of info which it might be good to talk about sooner than later is
the hardware being used for deganawida. The specs are as follows:
P2/266MHz
192M 70ns EDO RAM (running at 60ns results in rare but unacceptable errors)
1 4G master IDE, 1 30G slave IDE
1 24/2/4 CDROM/RW/R drive
1 3c905 (xl0 - can't remember revsion #) for connecting to db on walesa
1 Intel EtherExpress Pro/100 (fxp0) for connecting to inet
1 ISA video card (it supports color!)
(Potential) Upgrades:
1 - Scott from Bandwidthcoop should be sending me a 100G IDE hard drive
and I think the PCIIDE card which Christopher contributed to zero but
never got installed - I'm not sure if the best use for these is on
deganawida, but it's a possibility... It will definitely go somewhere on
the indymedia network.
2 - The CPU/mobo/mem should probably be the first thing to be upgraded,
even though we need to take some pictures of it in its current form
(Quinten?). I think this machine could handle the loads we get on zero,
but I fear CPU will be the limiting factor under heavy load. I have a
500M stick of PC133 which I can contribute. I also recently got a
barebones 1.4GHz Athlon (1700+, i think?), CPU fan, mobo, and a case
with a 300W power supply for under $150 (I cannot contribute this, but
it's an idea of how cheaply we can upgrade if we strip everything from
the current machine including floppy, cdrom, hard drives, etc.) Soooo...
If anyone has $100some dollars or an Athlon/P3 w/ case and mobo to
spare, we'll be in excellent shape. If no one does, well, keep your eyes
peeled.
Chris, does this tie in at all with the finance stuff you wanted to talk
about?
Sorry to send 3 emails in a row, posting from my "native" email address
was getting caught up in the admin system for the list. Anyone else want
to help admin the list?
Peace,
Brian
