[Deskaheh-sysadmin] Priority request for help with DADA backup issues

Hi folks, sorry for cross postings, but there is some urgency to this
request:

Here at IMC Hamilton, which runs on Deskaheh, we are trying to get a
grip on a problem with site backup. The best info we have in hand is
that while we thought that "someone" was doing that for us on a daily
basis it has not in fact been done since at least September 2004.

Not quite sure where to start...

When I log in to dada as admin and go to the cronjobs section of the
admin interface I see a last run date for all cron jobs of september
2004 i.e. for all jobs: weekly, hourly, daily, monthly, etc. clicking on
the "run now" links has no apparent effect i.e. the last run dates do
not update

Assuming what Dada is telling me is accurate I take it that whatever
drives the whole cron job package is shut off or broken. no one in
Hamilton has access to the server other than via the dada interface at
this point, so I assume that help will be needed to fix this

When I try to go to the error logs section I get this msg:

> Cannot display log files from /home/www/dadaIMC/hamilton/logs/

this smells like a permissions problem, again it will need a sudo to fix

I assume that when the cron jobs issue is sorted out all we will need to
do is ftp the MySQL backup file down to one of our machines in order to
safeguard what would need to be restored if the server was to crash or
"leave the building". If there is more to it than that though please say
so...

We need to know where that file is saved and get an FTP account set up
so we can download it. we will also need to be able to ftp from the
directories that hold our style sheets, graphics etc.
