If its really that bad server side and that's what it seems to be, I
guess jb's hints will be most helpful. Some of them require shell access
on deskaheh, though, maybe finnc can help you.

Unless this is sensitive data, i propose you go the wget -c way and
verify file integrity using checksums both server- and client-side.
