Hi!
I just returned from holidays, haven't checked email for a couple days.
I found this memo by pabs:
- -MemoServ- Memo #1 from pabs (sent 5 days (18h 13m 5s) ago) [N]:
- -MemoServ- hey, are you gonna remove those temporary DISCARDs on sarai?
Pabs is referring to the discard rules I added to the beginning of
/etc/postfix/checks/access
when we had this problem with the dissent server overloading sarai in
february:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/mmid/listwork/2006-0218-8m
Pabs is very much right about asking me about these rules at this time,
esp. as they are marked as temporary. Thanks, pabs.
I didn't remove these rules since as I never heard from the server
admins or the website maintainers that the problem had been fixed, and
the server which I was told is poorly maintained, so the chance of this
problem reoccurring seems high and as a 'listworker' it's more important
to me to have sarai in a functioning state than to have sarai transfer
email for a server which may be misconfigured.
I just reduced the access checks to a single line, which should have the
same effect as the ones that were there before:
69.48.73.242 DISCARD added by alster for log flood
I'm fine with removing this access check, too, provided that we receive
a reply by the server admins or the website admins that the server will
no longer mass email logs to mailing lists or there is consensus
(despite me) amongst listwork to remove it.
I'm forwarding below an email I sent to Masha and Warren which I have
not received a reply to so far (as far as I can remember and as far as
my email archive can tell). I'm CC'ing
dissent-sysadmin at lists.indymedia.org, a mailing list which has not seen
an email added to its archives since september '05.
Hope I'm not complicating things more than neccessary.
