Hi all, I wanted to drop a message to a list with some clarifying information.
We here at Prometheus just want to be clear about what we see the upcoming
project as, so we are all on the same page. If we have mis-interpreted the
intentions of the groups as to what the project is, then now is the time to
correct that. Please let us know what you think about the ideas below, so we
can move forward as soon as possible. We can discuss this during the IRC
meeting on Friday, but I (and other folks at Prometheus) would appreciate any
feedback people have before then!

------

The Prometheus Radio Project has committed to help build a temporary radio
station in Nairobi for the IMC convergence center alongside the World
Social Forum and a permanent station at Maseno University in Kisumu. In
order to clarify our role for this trip, we propose the following
activities, schedule and budget for our time in Kenya given two funding
scenarios. We expect that some portion of funding should be committed from
the X Minus Y, IMC Finance or Umverteilen grants.

Three members of Prometheus will travel to Nairobi: Hannah Sassaman, Andy
Gunn and Elena Botkin-Levy. We will travel first to Nairobi to build a
temporary radio station for the IMC convergence center and teach workshops
on radio construction, production and organization. Following the World
Social Forum, we will travel to Maseno University in Kisumu to build a
permanent radio station.

Our tentative timeframe puts us in Kenya for a total span of January 7th
through February 3rd.

SCHEDULE
January 7th to 12th - Arrive in Nairobi; collect materials and start
building the temporary station for the IMC convergence center

January 13th to 20th - Run workshops and finish building the temporary
radio station. Judith Miquda-Attyang, Felix ___ and colleagues travel from
Maseno University to Nairobi to participate in these activities

January 20th to 25th - World Social Forum; more workshops and training

January 26th to February 2nd  - Travel to Maseno University in Kisumu;
build a permanent radio station; run workshops and trainings

February 3rd – Return to the United States

ESTIMATED BUDGET
Prometheus has already acquired the necessary funding to travel from the
United States to Nairobi. We will scale the scope of this project to meet
costs that become available to us.

With a $2000 budget, we can construct one radio station for temporary use
at the IMC convergence center and permanent placement at Maseno
University.
$1200 one full set of equipment
	$300 incidental costs
$500 travel and accommodations for 3 Prometheans to Kisumu

With a $3500 budget, we can purchase two sets of radio equipment, enough
for a temporary station in Nairobi – the equipment to be owned by
IMC-Africa after it’s temporary use – and a permanent station at Maseno.
$1200 one full set of equipment
$1200 second full set of equipment
	$600 incidental costs
$500 travel and accommodations for 3 Prometheans to Kisumu

In both proposed budgets, we assume that the roundtrip travel and
accommodations for 10 delegates from Maseno University and the Kisumu
community are covered.

If members of IMC Kenya, Maseno University and IMC delegates in general
are in approval of this proposal, we request the disbursement of budget
for the purchase of equipment immediately. Due to availability and
shipping time, we want to insure that all necessary FM broadcast kits and
parts can be obtained in time.

Thanks everyone, take care!
-Andy
