On the agenda of the IRC meeting. I hope we can get down to start
trying to pin
down exactly how we?ll deal with all these important issues in such away that
those attending get as much of the skills as they wish to during the 28days
period of the Convergence Center Calendar:
7th Jan to 3rd February. So we need discuss issues that are good for a plenary
and what issue is for a hands-on-workshop and which day, which time for the
maximum benefit.
As far as I can remember we can divide the content into the following big
titles:
1-Radio:
.Workshop on Radio construction
.Production and Organizing
2-Skills on Participative democratic practices/formal Consensus
.Introduction to Formal Consensus (Intro)-C.T. Recommends for all.
.Better Meeting Skills (BMS)-For people who want better facilitation skills.
.Training for Teachers (T4T) to teach Formal Consensus (FC)- For People who
will like to teach Formal Consensus.
3-Indymedia
.theory/history/structure
.Practical Stuff: online tools, How to do interviews; write articles etc
. Discussion on How effective indymedia can be in places where there is no
access to computers, a solid communication infrastructure and the cheap
electronic gadgets that have been at the heart of indymedia growth and
development in the global north. And the utility or lack thereof of the
Indymedia network in our countries and how to make indymedia more
useful in our
countries and communities.
4- Screen printing
5-Podasting and other software and hardware skills for media making.
So we will have 19 days together in Nairobi and some people will have
and extra
9days in Kusumu for Maseno University- Station building and more training.
My opinion is that we could break these 5 major topics down into
sub-topics that
can go into plenary and others that go into a strict workshop setting.
For example the discussion on indymedia effectiveness in the global
South could
be a discussion for an evening plenary. With a projector one could
screen a few
films about indymedia (theory/history/structure) and have a discussion on that
in an evening plenary too.
We could take a couple of different sub-topics together in a day for the 19
days, and we also we need to allow for free slots where people can get to hang
out instead of having workshops and trainings all the time.
I hope in the days ahead that we?ll get to know the timetable of the WSF
itself and see things that we need consider when making our own timetable. For
example the days when there are the great marches we do not want to be seating
in a room having very serious workshops. Obviously we would want to report on
marches and have an indymedia block to marching on them to and get the
experience of interacting with such a diverse crowd.
OK! I stop there for now. What do you think??
