Hello!

My name is Danielle Chynoweth, active with the UC-IMC since 2001 and IMC's
since 1999.

Jason Turner is the new UC-IMC Treasurer (and therefore the Treasurer for
the Global IMC fund).

Jason and I are excited to meet up with you all in Narobi and provide
support where we can.

A few notes about our skills so we can plug in: I have been producing and
teaching radio production to youth and adults for 12 years and helped
build WRFU with Prometheus last year. I learned formal consensus from CT
Butler ten years ago. The UC-IMC has used these techniques with great
success - glad to see that CT will be there. I plan to produce some
radio pieces about the WSF for radio.indymedia.org and Free Speech Radio
News. I would be happy to work with visitors to the IMC to train them in
radio production and work on these pieces.

Jason has run the finances for various activist groups for 5 years. He is
new to IMC, but not new to Independent Media - he is part of a Chicago
distro collective of books and zines about African and African-American
history and politics.

I will repeat on this list the things I have been discussing with Sphinx
and Andy Gunn:

The UC-IMC is committed to raising $1000 towards the project and finding
2-4 computers to leave in Kenya. So that donors can get tax exemption, we
are collecting and disbursing funds through the UC-IMC.

This group can be the decision making body of where the money goes. We
have had some discussion here that the money would fund Sphinx's ticket
since that appears to be a high priority. We are in a position to front
the money to buy the ticket right away and pay the fund back with
fundraising in progress. We have a large fundraising event scheduled
later this month.

Jason and I will be arriving Sunday, January 14 and 9:20 pm and leaving
Friday, January 26 at 11:20 pm.

Our tickets were relatively cheap - $1140 round trip from British Airways
from Chicago to Narobi through London - so try British Airways when you
are searching for tickets. I found this price by calling them - it was
much higher on the web.

We have applied to the WSF, but not received confirmation or media
credentials - is there something I should do?

Warms regards to everyone on the list. Thank you for all the work you do.

in solidarity,

Danielle
