Hi All,
I will have a meeting with Kipp later today to further discuss the internet options and also what Fabian is suggesting about using some space at WSF for internet, radio and such. I will just gather as much information as possible to enable us to then make informed decisions on these key issues.

Yesterday I had a meeting with Oloo and we discussed about having a sort of partnership with Miss Koch radio station that already has frequencies. Both Kipp and Oloo will set up a meeting with the Miss Koch radio station then we can further discuss this. This radio station is in Korogocho, a ghetto that is close to the WSF headquarters.

About the accomodation, Oloo informed me that the space at the WSF is 30 USD per person per day so it is definitely out of the question for us. Our volunteers have however found several houses that I will check out tomorrow morning. From your emails, I gather that space is vital, so this is what I will be looking out for. But rest assured that we WILL get furnished and spacious house/s. Fabian, I will call you tomorrow as soon as I establish a good place then we can dicuss further.

About banking of some money in Kenya, Indymedia Kenya does not have a bank account so the only option would be to bank the money either in Oloo's account, or mine. For now, the most crucial funds to get are the ones for housing, once this is established. If we wait for someone to bring the funds then it means that we would only be able to seal the deal once whoever is bringing the money arrives. I wouldn't want to leave such vital confirmation until the very last minute. So my suggestion is that once we finally zeroe in on suitable accomodation and ascertain the prices, we should get at least half of the money so that we can seal the deal, then the other half can come a few days later with someone.

  Kwaheri,
  John

P/S I hope you are feeling better Sphinx. Wishing you a quick recovery!

  Hi Andy, Kipp, everybody
Kipp, are you saying to rent a line for one month and create a wireless
network for our guesthouse? and that is 5000 Kshs, that would be around
50 Euros/80 Dollars, sounds very reasonalbe price for a month. what is
the speed, bandwidth of this option?
As Andy wrote I think we need to know the location of the
guesthouse(s). As far as I understand John, there is no news yet.
However. if the location is further away, we defintily want that line
rental thingy for a month...
ah and by the way, a completely different option would be too have the
guesthouse(s) only for housing and try to find an dedicated Mediacentre
space somewhere else (close to WSF of course, or inside, maybe the
youthcamp...like in Bamako)...where the radio would be, the workshops
and everything else...something we are not using for sleeping. This
could also be an commerical internetplace, that we rent out for two or
three weeks...
anyway, thanks for all the effords..
I hope the visa clearence letter is really being worked on in Nairobi
and I hope all our delegates have sent it out to the prof in charge
there... but I am sure it will all work out. as always...
best for now
Fabian
