Hi Joram, Sphinx, Andre, imc-africa,

I've been on the new-imc list for a while and I'll be happy to answer any
questions anyone may have. I forwarded the original east-africa form to
this list because the new-imc group is trying to decentralize the new-imc
process. Meaning, if there's an IMC forming in Africa we'd rather have
people from Africa working on it together than some random person in Europe
or North America being the only contact. So, all this talk about the East
Africa IMC on this list, as well as what it takes to make an IMC work, is
really exciting!

There seem to be two different questions here. The easy one to handle is
how to go through the general new-imc process. The information is here:
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewImcHowTo. Having been on the
new-imc working group for a while, I'm sure one question from the new-imc
working group will be whether the forming IMC really does represent all of
East Africa, meaning there are people working on the IMC from all over East
Africa, or if the group is just composed of people based in one country or
city. The new-imc working group really tries to emphasize face-to-face
organizing and would generally rather see a city or country-based IMC than
a regional one where people don't neet. (A city or country-based IMC can
have a lot of regional information, so, for example, IMC-Uganda could have
a big East Africa news section.)

The more complicated question is how to get indymedia.org to link
immediately to the current IMC-East Africa project. There is no defined
process for that. Sometimes people e-mail the imc-communication to figure
out if they can be listed in an emergency way, or even go to the new-imc
working group and ask them to make a recommendation for that to happen. It
can be a bit complicated. People are really reluctant to put an IMC that
hasn't gone through the new-imc process onto the actual IMC cities list.

One much easier route to get people to visit the East Africa site would be
to e-mail the www-features at indymedia.org group and put up a feature on the
www.indymedia.org page. There's no complicated process for that and it
could bring at lot of attention to the site.

Jay
P.S. Sorry for no french! My written french is awful.
