Peace Brother!
If you do get time check up with the folks from the Journalism
department at the
University of Nairobi. Chris had made two trips there and even got some
lecturers from there to visit their school in the states on that program.
Promethues radio is quiet interested. I will be talking with the guys from
NewYork City wireless too. They can help with wi-fi stuff which can further
broaden the area a low powered FM can cover. I think it will be a nice idea if
this works out and IMC activists and other grassroots activists get the chance
to learn how to operate and run such a LPFM radio. From that, one could
organize for the building of similar grassroots owned and runned LPFMradios
around the continent.
I was at a meeting last week with C.T. Butler author of the Formal
Consensus(www.wandreilagh.org/consensus.pdf) book linked to Newimc. He will be
at the Nigerian Conference and we started talking about him coming to
WSF-Kenya
and he said he will get back to me on that later.
It will be a nice idea to get a feel of what exactly you people on the
ground in
Kenya are thinking.
Even though my hands are very full right now I hope I'll be able to be there.
We could set-up an indymedia Center at the WSF. From were we could cover the
conference both on the web, on Fm radio and video feets. One could shear
footage with link TV, and talk to the folks from the South America
sattelite Tv
project, radioPAcifica and a hand full of others. There is alot we can
do at WSF
the question now is probably what does IMC-Kenya envision?? how is the
infastructure on the ground i.e can IMC Kenya organize for example a space for
us to set-the WSF IMC Center?? Can IMC Kenya organize a place for
lodging/camping of IMCistas who come to the forum?? Can IMC Kenya
secure for us
some press badges to the main events?? How is the general press room
for the WSF
going to look like; can IMCistas get access to it and cover press conferences
during the event and others?? I understand from Todd and others from Witness
Humanrights video advocacy group in New York that they have been in and out in
Kenya; are they involved in the prep?? May be we can figure-out how to work
together. What kind of infrastructure can the WSF put to the disposal of
IMCistas via Computers, internet access, etc. If this is cleared one can start
asking specifically from NYCWireless if they wish to help with setting up some
wi-fi internet hot-spots around town during the forum and we could ask
from the
guys of tech-soli if they can help collect some computers for us to set-up
internet access points around town during the event. There is not much time
left. And again all of that will be tired in away to how determind
IMC-Kenya is
herself active. I cannot even tell if IMC-Kenya completed Newimc
process; if yes
why are they not yet linked to www.indymedia.org. They may need to keep their
site very active for one to be able to mobilize the support from others in and
around the network.
OK I end my thinking process there for now.
