I just sent an e-mail to Indymedia's imc-finance working group to explore 
the possibility of their putting some financial support toward the 
WSF/Nairobi IMC.  I don't know how much money exists in the global 
account.  Also, I hear the working group is in substantial disarray so I'm 
not 100% hopeful, but we should definitely try.  I'll let you know if 
anyone responds.

This is Jay from the Philadelphia IMC.  I hope you're all happy, healthy 
and giggling constantly.

Apologies for the English.  I'll add a computer translation into Spanish 
and French below.

I've been working with organizers in Philadelphia and on the imc-africa 
list to plan a really exciting thing: a "convergence-based" IMC that would 
exist for the week prior to, and the week of, the January 2007 World Social 
Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.  The IMC would create media about the WSF, host 
workshops for international and Africa-based activists about making 
independent media when they return home, as well as trainings in formal 
consensus (led by CT Butler of Food Not Bombs).   It would also include the 
building of an actual on-air low-power radio station, facilitated by the 
Prometheus Radio Project (http://www.prometheusradio.org).  That radio 
equipment would move after the WSF to partner organizations in Kenya, most 
likely the students of Maseno University who would use it to create 
independent radio for the forseeable future.  Activists from Africa, 
Europe, the US and South America have been active in these discussions.

I'm writing to IMC-finance to get the sense of what's going on with this 
working group and whether this project would have a chance of finding some 
financial support here.  This project seems like it would be right up 
imc-finance's alley -- a global-south-based project, equally co-organized 
by global south indymedia activists that would not only have the goal of 
inspiring indpendent media creation in the global south but would also 
leave a lasting impact on the Kenya independent media scene with the birth 
of an indpendent radio station.

Right now we're keeping cost projections low.  We are planning to challenge 
the Indymedia network, not just imc-finance, to support costs for the 
physical infrastructure of the IMC, including all necessary parts for the 
radio station (about $3000, with most parts purchased locally), and space 
rental/bandwidth/other logistics for the IMC itself (about $2000).  We're 
trying to raise travel expenses for Africa-based and international 
activists through several independent foundations.

So, my question.  What is the state of imc-finance?  Realistically, is 
there some money in the global account to support part of this global-south 
project?  If so, how should we go about applying?

J'avais travaillé avec des organisateurs à Philadelphie et sur la liste de
