[Imc-africa] raising money from IMCs

Hi imc-africa,

I'm excited to see so many ideas for fundraising flowing for the WSF IMC 
and so many of us interested in doing the necessary work to make this happen.

As we apply for small grants from foundations I also think we should appeal 
directly to IMCs throughout the network to help us raise money through 
having parties or other fundraisers.  I doubt we could raise $5000, but I 
bet with some coordination we could bring in a thousand or even two 
thousand dollars.  This has worked for imc-africa in the past-- various 
IMCs had parties to support the Dakar conference, right?  I remember the 
Philly IMC raised a few hundred dollars.

Would anyone from this list, preferably someone from Africa, be willing to 
work with me to personally contact as many IMCs as possible to invite them 
to be involved?  I know Sphinx will volunteer, but someone else too, as 
Sphinx is already doing so much. :)  We could sent bulk e-mails and spam 
imc lists but the most effective thing to do will be to work a bit to find 
personal contacts at each IMC.  We'll need to invest some time, but we 
could get some results.

In my opinion, this kind of fundraising would be really 
satisfying.  Foundations have money but they also have strings 
attached.  Plus, we may agree fundamentally with some of the funders or 
partners of some of the foundations who give grants in these areas (such as 
IREX, which may have partners we don't want to partner with).
