hello all! below is a mail I developed from Jay's mail and sent to imc-tech soli
who use to collect PCs to support indyemdia project in the global south.
The trouble is I do not know how effective tech-soli is at the moment.
Jay I went hunting for Rabble whom I know was one of the main figures on
tech-soli but did not get hold of him. He was ZZzz at the time I saw him and he
never got back to me.
I know you too are very busy, but can you try to drop him a line too??

On the question raised in your last mail about IREX, I scanned through the site
and it was not clear to me the kind of strings these guys could attach to their
grants, which is the kind of thing I know folks in the network get ichy about. I
would say I have no objection to you going on with the IREX grant application.
Of course if they try to attach any strings to the grant then you could
indicate for folks here to express their opinion. That way we'll go alot faster
with this fundraising effort rather than wait for all of us in the list to have
time to read through the websites of every potential funders.

Jay, you are absolutely correct about approaching local IMCs. I remember UC-IMC
had donated in the frame of their special IGAP program(Indymedia Growth in
Africa Program) 1500 USD and all the other IMCs who did contribute to Dakar, a
dozen of them.

You are absolutely right that more activists especially those in Africa need to
volunteer to work with the fund applications. Indeed, I'm burnt out and over
worked with personal stuff and my health has unfortunately decide to stay the
rebellion course with migraine day in day out. One lil day without sleep and
the head starts acting-up :-p.

OK, I go for now.

Hello tech-solidarity!
We?ve been working on planning
A "convergence-based" IMC that would
exist for the week prior to, and the week of, the January 2007 World Social
Forum in Nairobi, Kenya. The IMC would create media about the
WSF, host
workshops for international and Africa-based activists about making
independent media when they return home, as well as trainings in formal
consensus (led by CT Butler of Food Not Bombs). It would also include the
building of an actual on-air low-power radio station, facilitated by the
Prometheus Radio Project (http://www.prometheusradio.org). That radio
equipment would move after the WSF to partner organizations in Kenya, most
likely the students of Maseno University who would use it to create
independent radio for the foreseeable future and the forming indymedia
Kenya. Activists from Africa, Europe, the US and South America have
been active in
these discussions.

I?m writing to ask if tech-solidarity you could collect some computers for us
to use at the Convergence IMC.
Two of the computers will be used for the radio and the others will be used at
the Convergence Center.
Looking to hearing from you.
Thanks
Sphinx.
