Hello all! This is a copy of the request I just sent to UC-IMC.
Sphinx

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Appeal for Support with preparation for the World Social Forum IMC.

Organizers in Kenya, throughout Africa and around the world will
work together, both on-line and in face-to-face meetings, to build a
temporary independent media center in Nairobi, Kenya, to provide
communication during the January '07 World Social Forum. This
"convergence-based" IMC will provide text-based, audio, and
(potentially) video coverage of the World Social Forum, both on-line
and through a local low-power radio station, enabling independent
media coverage of the WSF during the forum itself as well as access
through the world wide web to the WSF by an international audience.
The IMC will also be a hub for trainings and hands-on media-making
workshops throughout the World Social Forum. All the equipment
purchased for this IMC will remain in Kenya for use by the Kenya IMC
and other Kenyan independent media projects. The IMC plans to be open
from January 13 to January 25. The WSF itself takes place from January
20-25.

With thousands of organizers coming to the World Social Forum from
around the globe, especially from Africa; this IMC will provide us
the opportunity to introduce thousands of African activists to the
indymedia revolution, with its focus on consensus and non-hierarchy
organizing to enhance a participatory democracy culture.

The Indymedia Growth in Africa Project (IGAP) of UC-IMC played a
very crucial roll in starting this indymedia introduction process in
Africa, by providing funds that covered a big part of the
transportation of Sven and Maulwaufe from IMC-Germany to the First
Indymedia Regional Conference in Africa, in 2004 in Dakar, where they
ran alternative media and indymedia introduction workshops.
The IMC-Africa working group remains very grateful for that important support.

It?s my understanding that UC-IMC has closed its IGAP project,
yet with a 501c status and your experience in fundraising, I?m
writing to appeal for your support to this WSF-IMC by helping raise
funds to cover especially the transportation of the following US based
volunteers whose presence in Nairobi will be instrumental.

-Hannah and Siyade from Prometheus radio who will help build, operating and
run workshops on the Low Powered FM Station. Two tickets needed from
Philadelphia to Nairobi.

-C.T. Butler co-founder of FoodNotBombs and longtime consensus
teacher will run ?train the trainer? workshops on non-violent
social change and consensus organizing. One Ticket needed from Maryland
to Nairobi.

-Me-Sphinx. I?ve been involved with IMC Austria and IMC-Germany, helped
organize IMC-Ambazonia, organized the first Regional indymedia Conference in
Dakar, has been actively involved in new-imc in the past and help set-up
IMC-Africa working group.
In Nairobi I will be running workshops on the nuts and bolts of indymedia and
on Software used in indymedia via MIR, Mailman, IRC, wiki etc. I need a ticket
from Minneapolis to Nairobi.

Another thing is during the preparation for the Dakar Conference I was living in
Germany, so I got our Autonomous Center with a German version of a 501c
registration to allow us refer other donors to donate to their bank account.
I?m now in the US and here in Minneapolis I?ve been trapped in a movie
project that has not left me the time to connect with local organizations. The
IMC-Twincities is really still forming. We will surely need the same kind of
assistance from you, especially with US based donors.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

   Best Regards.

  Sphinx.

  P.S. Calculations from http://www.onetime.com/
Put?s the price of all four tickets at $5899. Yet we wish to say it is NOT a
must for you to raise the netire sum. Any contribution you make will be greatly
appreciated as it will go a long way to cut down on the close to $35,000 we
need raise to cover equipment, logistics and transport for all our Delegates
coming to the WSF-Convergence IMC event in Kenya from across Africa, South
America, Asia, Europe and North America.
